(John Jones)
Basic Information
Full Name: J'Onn J'Onzz (birth name); John Jones (current alias)
Preferred Name or Nickname: John, The Manhunter
Original/Canon: Canon
Age: About one-hundred ten (110), by Earth Gregorian calendar
Date of Birth: Around 1900 A.D. (Earth Gregorian calendar)
Main Character Classification: Super Hero/Police
Power(s): The Martian physiology is very unique, especially in comparison to that of humans. John's molecular structure is composed of a series of microscopic biological polymers, each of which can be mentally manipulated. These polymers grant him such abilities as superhuman strength, durability, and speed, in addition to the ability to alter his form in virtually any way he sees fit. By telekinetically pushing himself, he is able to fly unaided through the air. His mental abilities do not just cover his physical form, but also many other categories. John is able to read, control, and manipulate the minds of others, not to mention telekinetically move matter, in addition to being able to see the future. However, there are powers that John possesses that are hard to classify as either physical or mental. For example, he is able to become invisible to a wide variety of spectrums, or even shift his atoms to move unhindered through matter. Even more odd are his enhanced senses, his superhuman breath, and what he refers to as his "Martian vision", which not only allows him to project bolts of force or heat from his eyes, but also lets him see into other spectrums and even zoom in telescopically or microscopically.
Sexuality: Finds himself more attracted to the females of a given race, but is open to relationships with most everybody
Side(Good, Evil, or Neutral): Good
Hometown: Mars
Current Residence: Uses fake addresses in both Metropolis and Gotham; actually resides on a Swann Communications satellite in Earth's orbit

A dark blue overcoat is often worn over a similarly blue pinstripe suit, complete with a red necktie and old-school trainer shoes. A pair of eyeglasses are also frequently employed, though this is mostly used for aesthetic purposes and to help hide his identity.

Personality: Following his resurrection, John has boundless enthusiasm, though in his case often at inappropriate times. He seems to be genuinely surprised when he is rude or uncouth. Charismatic and manic and with boundless energy, he has a great potential for righteous anger. When driven by anger or righteousness, he would act without hesitation to strike down those who oppose him.
While he had resolved much of the survivor's guilt felt previously, he is beginning to feel his age and, behind the outward playfulness, he feels a deep loneliness. His keen sense of loss leads him to empathize with those who have also suffered.
There was an undeniable shadow cast over the jollity of John. He had a ruthlessness, bordering on arrogance that was almost eerie to behold. Beneath his youthful veneer, John is an aging Martian who has seen many terrible things; and in some matters, his patience and capability for mercy has worn out or diminished.
After meeting Agatha Christie through time travel and witnessing the events that lead to her infamous disappearance and amnesia, John theorizes that what kept her writing all of the years that followed was a desire to remember the events she had forgotten and makes a notable comparison to that desire to his compulsion to travel the stars. This subtle remark suggests that the reason John travels is because he is trying to recapture memories that he has lost or that were taken from him.
John has a very hard time accepting defeat or failure; for example, when a companion was killed and he couldn't bring her back, he screamed, "I can do anything!" Arguably this may be because he has seen so much destruction he feels driven to try to prevent it where possible, though others think that if he lost this trait the universe would become a darker place.
He frequently gets into trouble because of his vast and loose sense of superiority and provides his name (his chosen name, not his birth name) as a threat, which only rarely works, despite his apparent expectations (perhaps because everybody expected all of the Martians to be dead).
John frequently ignores reproach; when others point out he's committing horrible acts, he ignores them or changes the subject. John is willing to go to extreme lengths to help others and protect innocent civilizations, even to the point of having to cause deaths, although as time went on, he has become more hesitant to do so.

History: The planet Mars was once a proud civilization. Their technology was millions of years ahead of our own. The Martians were a proud and noble race, having lived in peace and harmony for ages. However, all good things must come to an end. For an unknown reason, renegade Martians began to grow, and they took on a white skin color as a sign of their rebellion. These Martians, for some reason, wanted nothing more than chaos and destruction.
The only force keeping the peaceful Green Martians, as the rest of the Martians had come to be called, from being destroyed were the Manhunters. They were the peacekeepers of the planet. They were police officers, detectives, judges, and bounty hunters rolled into one. Highly intelligent and skilled, a select few Martians were chosen from an early age to train to become Manhunters.
One of these Martians was J'Onn J'Onzz. As the son of M'yrnn and Sha'sheen, two of Mars's most famed scientists, he and his brother, Ma'alefa'ak, were both chosen to become Manhunters. J'Onn began training to become a Manhunter at a young age.
Unfortunately, J'Onn would never complete his training.
The White Martians performed a massive invasion, completely eliminating the Manhunters. J'Onn, despite his age, was forced to fight for not only his very life, but for the lives of everybody he loved. Unfortunately, there was no victory, as all of the Green Martians were killed. The last people alive were the J'Onzz family, rounded up to be tortured. M'yrnn, however, was able to use his scientific aptitude to activate a disabled stargate in hopes of getting his last surviving son to Krypton. Unfortunately, this was not to be, as the stargate instead directed John to the next nearest one.
Earthlings had evolved quite a lot since the Martians originally landed on their planet. In Antarctica, the Martians had established an outpost city, known as Z'onn Z'orr. It was there that they left their stargate. Ten years prior to the death of the Green Martians, a United States scientific outpost in Antarctica found the advanced technology with alien writings on it. They never found the city. Bringing it back to America, the government hired Dr. Saul Erdel, a noted archaeologist, to oversee the translation of the writings.
Ten years later, the stargate was lying in Dr. Erdel's basement due to inactivity in the project. It was suddenly activated, however, and out came a figure appeared. Dr. Erdel watched in deep fascination: it was an alien, roughly in the shape of a boy. Alien contact had been made, and it was neither benevolent or malevolent; it was frightened and alone.
The young alien was soothed by Dr. Erdel, who went about teaching him about Earth. Eventually, he was even able to help train John with his powers in order to pass as human. Junior high was when John was finally able to go out into the world, with Dr. Erdel acting as his guardian. By the time he was in high school, his memories of Mars had become vivid dreams. It was also at this time that he adopted the form of an African-American, after seeing the injustice the race faced, not to mention the inspiring presence of Dr. Martin Luther King. Dr. King's speeches not only spoke to African-Americans, but to John himself, who was also naturally different.
Throughout his time in high school, he was able to use his powers around his hometown of Middleton, Colorado to help people and stop various threats. In his late teens, he had even met another young man, Jor-El of Krypton, who was sent on an expedition by his father. Even after Jor-El left Earth, John remembered him, especially when he tried to remember that he wasn't the only alien out there in the universe.
It wasn't long after this that he saved an overturned gas tanker which inadvertently exploded. In the ensuing fire, his true Martian form was revealed to the people of the nearby town. The people formed a lynch mob, utilizing torches and pitchforks to push John out of town.
Mankind was shallow and dangerous. From the race riots he had seen in his youth and adolesence, and now to himself being attacked when he did good, he couldn't take it anymore. Coming to grips with who he was - an alien, not a human - John left Earth with the help of various Martian recordings left at Z'onn Z'orr, the ancient Martian outpost in Antarctica. Not longer afterward, he had arrived on Krypton, where he was received warmly by Jor-El, who still remembered him. On Krypton, John was highly revered as the last survivor of Mars, and as Martian royalty. Jor-El assisted him in assimilating as well as getting him a job as an intergalactic law enforcement bounty hunter, in return for J'Onn helping him with various experiments. It was during this time that John was responsible for the initial capture of General Zod.
When Krypton exploded a few years later, John was off-planet following his arrest of Zor-El, and he was unable to return to save anybody due to Krypton's warpgates having been shut down beforehand by Zod and Brainiac. However, he was able to intercept one last message from his friend: like what had happened to J'Onn himself, Jor-El was able to send his own son to another planet in hopes that he would survive. Unfortunately, this planet happened to be Earth.
As a last gift to his dead friend, John agreed to watch over baby Kal-El, even if it meant remaining on Earth, a planet he was no longer fond of. During this time, John had met and befriended various figures, including Robert Queen, Virgil Swann, Lionel Luthor, and Genevieve Teague. Swann, using his communication company as a front, agreed to build J'Onn a "watchtower" in the form of what appeared to be a communication satellite around Earth. It was John that was responsible for subsequently bringing together the heroes known as the Justice League, subtly moving them to take down Lex Luthor.
John finally revealed himself to Clark when the young Kryptonian was facing Aldar, a Phantom Zone escapee that was even more powerful than him. With his combined powers of Martian vision and intangibility, John was able to kill Aldar. Before Clark could find out who he was, he fled. However, the two would soon afterward have a less-than-formal meeting inside Clark's own mind when a psionic Phantom attempted to take over Clark's body. Using his telepathy, he was able to aid Clark before sending the Phantom back to the Zone.
John continued to assist Clark, including helping him figure out Bizarro's weakness and then trapping Bizarro on the dark side of Mars. Eventually, however, Clark's own adventures led to him losing his powers. John had made a promise to Jor-El that he would protect his son, even if it meant losing his own life. He flew Clark to the sun to jumpstart the Kryptonian's powers even though he lost his own in the process.
With his powers lost, John was stuck on Earth, where he was forced to live as a human being. Using his various connections and his own intellect, he was able to create a new identity for himself as John Jones, a detective with the Metropolis police department. In this regard, he was still able to assist Clark and others while also continuing to help people.
While on duty, John was shot in the heart by a fleeing suspect. The mortal wound activated his Martian regeneration, a process that not only completely physically rebuilt him on a molecular level, but also rebuilt his mind. While retaining the same memories, he had essentially become a new man, with the regeneration giving him a new personality, beliefs, and even returning his powers.

Just as soon as it had began, the pressure upon his mental shields had disappeared. Something wasn't adding up. At least for now, he needed to remain withdrawn and watch his words and actions. She was still foreign to him, and the slightest slip-up could cost him his very will.
"There's no such thing as a perfect race, nor a perfect empire. My people's greatest enemy was, in fact, themselves. The White Martians and Green Martians were practically identical, save for their mental states and default appearances. Centuries of injustice, miscommunication, and mistreatment from both sides came to a head, and it resulted in the eradication of all. On Krypton, people were divided into so-called royal 'houses', and due to a fanatical religious prophecy, the planet was destroyed. Of course, if the Council had simply heeded the impending warnings, the Kryptonian race would have survived, but they were too arrogant, too boastful to believe that they could be felled. And your empire...I've encountered my share of Almerac people in my day, men and women alike. Your race is grossly imbalanced, with one individual placed high above another. But the human race?" He motioned with his arm down over the street. On the ground, a black man, a white woman, and an Asian male were laughing and walking down the street in joy. There was no emphasis placed on their appearance, or social standings.
"Humans are getting over identifications of difference. For years, men and women have been treated with perfect equality, with no person held above another. People of all races, genders, religions, sexual orientations...all of them are seen as equals. One of, if not the most important nation on this planet has just elected its first colored president. Metahumans are becoming more accepted by the day, and even extraterrestrials like us are, too."
John continued to stare out over the street, with one foot brought up on the ledge of the rooftop, allowing him to rest his arms on his knee. "And what of other species in this galaxy, Queen? The ones that you think so highly of? My race was destroyed over simple miscommunication and blind mistrust. Krypton was eradicated due to a group of individuals believing in some so-called 'prophecy', and because those they faced were too arrogant to care. And Almerac? On Almerac, men are treated as slaves, and women reign supreme. A far cry from equality and open-mindedness."
Finally, the Martian turned to look at Maxima, staring her straight in the eye. "Don't be so quick to judge a species due to their own technological and outward social statuses, especially when humanity has shown itself to be far more unique and infinitely more interesting than any other race I've encountered."

What can your character do to enhance our site, and how will it be included in the plot/story. Please think carefully and remember, know mary sues etc. Even the superheros have faults. This part of the application is very important as we only want the best role players join our site.
In the mini-series "Justice", Batman once said, "In many ways, the Martian Manhunter is like an amalgam of Superman and myself." A site that revolves around the mythologies of both characters could benefit greatly from a person that is a combination of both. John is a detective, able to use his contacts to help others, and a fun subplot could be various characters helping to get him to go out more.
